Todd Trench resigns as president after 20+ years of service
9 November 2019
Dear Griffins family and rugby community of Newcastle,
We came to the end of an era last night when, at our AGM, Todd Trench resigned as president after 20 something years in the job.
This is a great loss for our club but I am sure we all respect his decision and wish him the best in the future.
Trenchy has been more than a valued member of the club. His name is synonymous with The Griffins and his contributions have brought us to where we are today; with a terrific reputation in the rugby community of Newcastle and a great platform to grow and flourish on and off the field. To say I have big shoes to fill is an understatement.
As the newly appointed president, I look forward to upholding the tradition of The Griffins in Trenchy’s honour and I welcome and seek your support, constructive suggestions and feedback on my leadership and of the new look committee as we continue to build one of Newcastle’s oldest rugby clubs.
The committee’s focus for next year will be to continue recruitment, introduce some overseas players for the first time in a structured approach, and bring back two teams with an entry into the social 4’s competition, all with on-field results in mind supporting our coaching crew.
In addition to supporting the players and general running of the club, The committee will also be focussed on continuing the search for a new home ground (with some prospects already in the pipeline), strengthening our relations with neighbouring club, Cooks Hill in the way of an inter-club cup and some joint fundraising efforts, continuing to build The Griffins brand through social media and strengthen our ties with partnering sponsors to ensure profitable returns for the sponsors making it easier for them to remain sponsors of our great club year after year.
The committee for season 2020 looks like this:
President: Nigel Mifsud
Vice President: Kevin Armstrong
Treasurer: Adam Burgess
Secretary: John Bell
Cultural Officer: Jake Stuart
Game Day Officer: Michael Hall and Kevin Armstrong
Sponsorship Co-ordinator: Todd Trench
Communications Officer: Chris Bushell
Ladies and Gents, with such a new look committee, this is an exciting time. The Griffins are growing. We are financially stable, we provide great marketing opportunities for prospective and existing sponsors, we have a great playing group with lots of friendships forming and our results on the field will continue to improve as we cut our own pathway to success.
Finally, I ask you all to join me in congratulating Trenchy on his service to the club at our sponsor hotel, The Hamilton Station this coming Saturday the 16/11 at 5pm where we can share a cold drink, a meal and a yarn and hopefully a sing a long led by the man himself.
With regards and anticipation for a successful 2020,
Nigel Mifsud
